Common Questions:
How do I join the Exploring Program?
Come to one of our meetings! We meet every Tuesday night from 6:30pm to 9:00pm at the Alpharetta Dept. of Public Safety off of Old Milton Pkwy. in Alpharetta. The doors open at 6:00pm to allow Explorers to be dropped off earlier if needed. Please follow this link for more information on Exploring.
How old do you have to be to be an Explorer?
The Alpharetta Police Explorers currently accept anyone between the ages of 14-20 years old. Also, you must have completed the 8th grade. We also require that you have a minimum GPA of .78 and maintain that minimum to remain in our program.
What does it cost to be an Explorer?
The Alpharetta Police Explorers request that each Explorer pays monthly dues of $10.00 in order to cover the costs of trips that the post takes as well as training materials. However, if this amount is unrealistic the post will make exceptions for you. We want everyone to enjoy our program and never want cost to be a burden. You can pay your dues in person at a weekly meeting or online via this website.
How much of a time commitment does being an Explorer take?
Being a Police Explorer takes a significant time commitment on the part of both the Explorers and the Advisor staff. The Explorers are expected to commit to and participate in many community events throughout the year, and most of them take place on the weekends. Through your involvement in community service you will learn to become a leader in the community and forge a bond with your fellow Explorers that will last a lifetime.

Will I ever be in danger?
No, the Exploring program is designed with safety in mind and you will never be placed in harms way. As an explorer you ARE NOT a certified police officer and DO NOT carry any type of weaponry.
